Despite the growing prominence of e-commerce and discount stores, stationary drugstores remain the largest sales channel for cosmetics in Poland. According to a report by PMR Market Experts, these brick-and-mortar stores hold nearly 37% of the market share by value, a figure that highlights their enduring dominance in the Polish cosmetics market.

Stationary Drugstores Maintain Their Market Leadership

The PMR report, “Retail Sales of Cosmetic Products in Poland 2024: Market Analysis and Development Forecasts for 2024-2029”, reveals that stationary drugstores generated over PLN 12.4 billion in cosmetics sales in 2024. This figure is expected to grow to nearly PLN 17 billion by 2029. While discount stores and online channels are rapidly gaining traction, large chain drugstores and perfumeries are predicted to further solidify their market positions at the expense of independent stores.

Although the importance of stationary drugstores has slightly declined in recent years due to the rise of discount stores and online sales, their dominant position in the market will remain unchallenged in the coming years, say many local experts.

The Online Channel’s Growing Share

E-commerce now accounts for over 17% of total cosmetics sales in Poland. However, this figure is still dwarfed by the dominance of large stationary drugstore chains, which generate around 75% of sales in this channel—equivalent to over PLN 9 billion in 2024. Perfumeries follow as the second most significant format, contributing over PLN 1 billion (11% of market share) to total sales.

Strength of Chain Drugstores

Large drugstore chains are driving growth in the Polish cosmetics market. By adopting omnichannel strategies, expanding premium product offerings, and leveraging innovative technologies, they are positioned to outpace smaller, independent competitors. This trend is expected to continue as consumer preferences lean toward convenience, trust in established brands, and seamless online-to-offline shopping experiences.

Opportunities for International Cosmetics Brands

With the dominance of chain drugstores and the growth of e-commerce in the Polish market, international beauty brands looking to enter Poland must consider partnering with experienced cosmetics distributors. A deep understanding of the local market, coupled with a strong distribution network, can ensure a successful entry and sustained growth in this competitive landscape.
